The Clerk's Office for the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit is located on the 27th Floor of the Everett McKinley Dirksen United States Courthouse, located on Dearborn Street between Adams Street and Jackson Boulevard in Chicago.
The Clerk's Office is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays. Paper filings may be submitted at the Clerk's Office. Other office closings, such as for inclement weather, will be announced on this website and also on the main telephone line. Documents may be filed electronically using the Court's CM/ECF system at any time. In the event you need to file an emergency motion outside of normal business hours, appropriate arrangements should be made with the Clerk's Office in advance.

Under Circuit Rules 22 and 27, attorneys in death penalty cases should make every effort to file motions with the clerk during normal business hours.
If an attorney believes that an emergency motion is likely to be filed during nonbusiness hours, the attorney should notify the clerk during business hours of this possibility.
If an emergency arises in a death penalty case during nonbusiness hours, including the need to file an emergency motion to stay execution,
